Hey JP,

 Fresh worked ground smells good doesnt it??  I know that sounds kind of retarded, but when you get out of the tractor and take a whif, aside from the diesel fumes I think it smells good!!

No, that doesn't sound retarded at all, I agree completely.  Freshly tilled soil ranks right up there with some of the best odors in life, but you gotta be a farmer to think that way.

 

 

I also looked through your website, didn't even know you had one.  See you have one of those 88 series IHs that has gone to the three shades of red like most, what is it, a 5088?  And is that a 1086, can't tell with the loader on it.  We had one of those that got traded off four years ago now.  And hold on to that 6788, its going to be a rare tractor, only made about 200 of em.  

 

And your hay operation blows our away!

Im glad to hear someone else thinks that way.  Those old IH's are turning every which color.  Seen alot of sun, have loads of hours.  I dont think the hour meter work a couple.  Best part is they still run as good.  I just dont like where they put the hydrostat lever in them.  Its in an odd place in my opinion and makes my arm sore after a few hours of picking up bales.  Thats why I kick my grandpa out of his Deere and make him run something else.  If you are refering to the cab-less tractor in the first picture with the loader its a 1026.  It leaks hydraulic fluid horrible at the loader controls.  I should have taken a picture of that.  It is a 1086, im assuming your talking about the one with the fertilizer tank hooked to it.  I havent seen many 6788 2+2's around.  Maybe 2 or three at least around here.  I guess that thing will be around till the motor goes or something else happens to it.  I hope I got those in the order you asked.  I dont know why I never take my camera with me when I work.  With my luck I would break it.  I need some more interesting pictures.

Fresh swathed alfalfa smells good too!  K1500,  that tracked stuff is cool and that 8410T is big enough!  I havent gotten to run one of the Deere T's or a Challenger but I 'd like to sometime.  I hear the new Challengers are coming out with HID exterior lighting, that aught to be nice!  I like to take that 9300 and run through some deep sticky mud, let it pack in between the duals and then run down the road and let it fly all over the place!   :laugh:

 

This is really the only other  big tractor weve got.  Rest are small Case IH's and an old Versatile 936.

Speaking of the new Challengers, here they are.  I've seen them up close, I think they qualify for the title "beast."

CAT has their own line of tillage tools too.  They bought Krause plow in Hutchinson, KS where I used to live.  I want one of them Lexion 485 tracked combines, those things are big.

Actually, the Krause deal with Cat is dead now.  It was disolved shortly after this whole AGCO thing happened.

 

As for the Lexions, Cat no longer owns half of that joint venture anymore.  They sold their half back to Claas who now owns 100% of the Lexion line, as well as the brand new factory in Nebraska.  Through an agreement the Lexions can still be sold with the Cat name on the side through Cat dealers.  They are huge, I'll say that, but I'm not completely impressed with their design.  It is totally European in design, not like all the other combines available here that were designed with our crops and conditions in mind.  Oh, and for $350K I'll let you buy one!

Those Claas combines are ugly, the CAT's looked better.  As far as Krause goes, I guess I should read Kansas Farmer a little more often, I didnt know that fizzled out.  I dont have a spare 350 grand to drop on a combine!

Won't get an argument from me on that one.  That and fresh soil are two of my favorite smells.  Diesel fumes aren't that bad either....
