fuel pump

Has anyone ever replaced a fuel on a truck similar to a 1997 Chevy 1500? Mine appears to have gone bad. I have found out it is in the fuel tank. Is it a difficult operation? Thanks for the help.

I haven't done one in a truck, but since you haven't had any replies, I figured I would chime in.

I have replaced one in a 98 Camaro Z28.  It wasn't fun, but it was pretty straightforward.  Plan on a solid 3 hours work.

I replaced my own on my '96 that I used to have. It is a pretty straight forward job. I had a lot of gas in the tank at the time the pump went bad so that made things a little more difficult. I used a floor jack with a piece of plywood on it to support and lower the tank with the fuel in it.  :)

I just changed mine in my 99 GMC (old body style) this past weekend. I changed the one in my 92 S-10 about a year ago, with that one I droped the tank down and installed it that way. On my 99 I just did I took the bed off, WAY EASIER. If you have a couple of buddies to help lift the bed off. Make sure you don't set it on the ground it will bend the front corners up. I set mine on two saw horses. Get your pump from a discount auto parts store its cheaper. My pump from AutoZone was $276. With my year you get the whole module, that comes with fuel level sensor unit and pressure senor unit all in one.
