got a 2001 gmc 2500hd w 6 liter. 105k on it. has had a ticking issue since 9k miles, now at 105k it is starting to use a lot of oil. 1 quart in 600 miles on recent trip. brought it in, shop said cam and lifter issue and would need to tear down to see if bad rings or scored cylinders. called gmc cust. service and they are willing to fix 100% if it can be repaired at the dealership. and they would cover 80% if it needs a whole motor. i bought this truck new. and had brought it in a couple of times for engine knocking noise. was told of piston slap, but this noise does not go away. does it hot and you can hear it till rpms reach 2000. i think it will need an engine. but am glad gm is willing to work w me considering the miles on the truck. anythoughts??

failed to mention, when i had it in at 30k i had called gmc cust sevice, and they extended the engine warranty to 7yr 100k. i just feel like at that time no one was willing to help me get the truck fixed. and now when i called cust service they are more willing to help than when the truck was under warranty.

According to a Jasper motor rep the factory piston skirts are to short allowing the piston to wobble excessivly. Jasper corrects the problem on theres with a much longer piston skirt

new motor is now in. engine is quiet. i talked to the tech, he said most likely a cam issue. cam gets pits or scored, then causes problems w lifters. making noise cold or hot. and the oil burning issue he said was most likely scored cylinder walls.

has gm corrected the problem. i see lots of posts w 6.0 liter engine noises.....

Yes, that problem was fixed awhile back. I beleive the problem started in 99 and went till late 01 or with early 02's. Do you know if they gave you the newer 6.0 like in the 2010 models with more HP?

no its a gm reman part#12491859. for 01-02.,

OK. I just asked same question in your other thread. So it's not a brand new engine, but a remanufactured that has new pistons and so on? For $5500, I've seen new engines offered by edelbrook and so on. I know that GM would not cover that, you have to use GM's engine. Just kinda thought that GM would use current 6.0 as replacement.
