Clicking Under The Dash

Recommended Posts

I have a click under the dash every once in awhile and can't figure out what it is. It sounds like a relay clicking but nothing seems to happen when it does it. The dealer kept the truck for two days and it never happen. As soon as I get 200 miles down the road it does it several times and you don't hear it anymore for several days. I can't figure out anything that makes it happen. I've tried turning stuff on and off and nothing seems to make it happen or stop it from happening.

Any ideas?

next time it happens, move the ac controls one at a time. left side temp, right side temp, mode then recirc. When you move one of them, the noise will likely stop. That's the hvac actuator that's "hunting" for position due to a failed feedback circuit.

Possibly anyway... hard to tell from here.

And hope its on the drivers side. The passenger side is up in the dash and very hard to get to.

I have a 2003 Suburban Z71 with what sounds like a similar problem. Did anyone ever find a solution? My clicking relay sounds like a very small relay, and it clicks a few times, then it might rapidly click, stop, and then do it again. It won't happen when it is at the dealership. Nothing seems to happen out of the ordinary, but it drives me nuts. I'm about ready to tear out my dash (remove the radiol unit or something so I can see in the dash area and maybe find it that way, but hope someone else has some ideas.)

Oddly enough, there has been a time or two where I have shut off the ignition, removed the keys and hear it click a few times as I am exiting the vehicle....weird.
