2010 5.3 6 Spd?

I am looking at going from an LTZ Vmax 4 spd, to a 5.3 6spd. This will be in a single cab 4x4 that won't really be needed for towing as we have a few other trucks for that.

my questions are

1) Can this tranny hold 450hp reliably? no trips to the track, just mainly fun around town.

2) How can i make 450 hp? I am thinking of putting on a blower after a break in period. Would 6 psi do this?

3)What would CAI and a tune add to this truck? Lyndon Wester is a family friend and lives an hour from here, so i would most definetly be going to him.

4)This specific truck has 3.42, will upgrading to a 4.10 or 3.73 make it a lot better?

the 3.42s with a speed should be more then plenty...as far as strength i am unsure as the 6 speed is a new born and only time will tell...450 ponies is probably reachable with a tune and a blow but let the experts make the call on that one

I got a 2010 5.3 6 speed with 3.42 gears. nothing but problems with my tranny! HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!

Generally, the 6-speed is an awesome transmission... and most don't have issues. It's alot stronger than the the 4L60e trans too. Easiest way to make around 425 HP quick is adding a Supercharger to the 5.3L. And maybe more once you let Lyndon do his magic. Why not keep the Vmax and drop the supercharger on that. It comes with the 4L70e trans and 9.5" rear end to handle more power. Pushing that much HP, you still may consider doing some upgrades. IF you go with the 5.3, you won't have the 9.5" rear end. You'll most likely brake stuff constantly.

3.73's are AWESOME gears combined with the 6-speed. I have them with the 6.2L and they are nothing short of AWESOME! I think 4.10's would be to low unless you decided to run 35" tires, otherwise, the 3.73's would be plenty.

The stock input torque rating on the 6L80 is 440 ft/lb iirc, which is ~80 ft/lb more than a stock 4L60. Pretty sure a 4L80 has an input rating of 440 ft/lb also.

1-doubt it

2-blower or turbo

3-you wouldnt make much more HP but more of it would make it to the ground and feel smoother

4-3.42 would be a little laggy, 3.73 would be perfect. 4.10 would explode off the line but might be a little low.

my opinion, get a pro-charger, change ur gears, good set of tires, a rear locker(a real one, just wait till he g80 grenades then get one) like a 2000 rpm stall converter. you could have some serious fun. buddy had a good point tho too, why not slap a blower on the vmax?
