Bad Rear Axle Seal?

On a 300 miles trip this weekend and notice fluid leaking out of my right rear axle. I added fluid and drove on about 50 miles and it is leaking bad and has metal all in the rear axle fluid. What do you think caused this and where is the metal coming from. I am hoping it is just a outside axle bearing and seal but think it may be more. I dropped it off at a shop yesterday and just sitting waiting on results now. Wish me luck.

Just got the call. Rear axle has the bearing welded to it. I guess the bearing went out and eat the axle and seal. I hope to have it fixed by thursday.
