Silverado Instrument Cluster - Fuel Light/abs

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 2001 Silverado 1500 LS. The ABS light remains on and I hope to have that fixed with a recall repair on Friday. The low fuel light also comes on and I suspect it has to do with the sending unit. Many thanks for the information to repair both.

But I have also noticed a "clicking" from the instrument cluster, sounding much like when the turn signal or hazards are used. It does sound as if it is repeating a code, although I've yet to decipher.

My car has a tone when any warning light is activated, so my question is: Does this clicking have anything to do with the ABS or low fuel indicators?

Second question: Does a faulty fuel sending unit merely cause an inconvenience with respect to the low fuel light/inaccurate fuel level, or will this eventually cause the truck not to function?

Thanks.

Upon further exam, the clicking actually is the audible turn signal indicator. Same pattern, just intermitent.

Works fine when turn signal is activated, fine when hazards are activated, but clicks on its own when neither is activated.

Anyone have an suggestions other than finding the source and cutting power to it?

I can't help you with the clickining in your dash but I've had the low fuel indicator problem. Yes, it's an inconvenience but it won't cause your truck not to run. In my case, I would fill up and the fuel gauge worked intermitantly until it burned 2 or 3 gallons out of the tank, then the gauge worked fine after that. I replaced the fuel sending unit and everything worked as designed.
