Towing Safely

I hate to bother everyone with this, but I can not find the answer. I have a 1996 Chevy C1500 Crew Cab conversion (Centerion). It has a 5.7 engine, auto transmission and 3.73 ratio rear end. I have added a Roadmaster Active Suspension to the rear springs. I have also added a HD transmission oil cooler. The engine and tranny both use full synthetic oil. My question is "How much can I tow safely?". And I have added trailer brakes also. Thanks!

Thats the problem...no owners manual! Thought someone here might be able to help if they had the same year truck.

Its a converson. Probably the frame was cut to stretch it. I don't believe any one here has one. The Converson co would have the information you need. I have no idea since it didn't come that way from GM....

Conversion Company is out of business. lol Just wanted to get an idea of what the original owners manual said or if anyone had any ideas. I'm towing a travel trailer that weighs about 5000 lbs.

I probably wouldn't worry about 5000 lbs. Use a good weight distributing hitch and call it good...

GCWR for a 1996 5.7 with 3.73 gears is 12,000 lbs

Cab configuration makes no difference in the GCWR. Of course the bigger cab will weigh more so it can tow/haul less.

GCWR is the gross combined weight of the entire rig. This includes the truck, fuel, passengers, cargo, trailer, trailer cargo.

Weigh your loaded truck without the trailer and subtract from 12000 that is what you can tow.
