please don't guess at this,the 4l60 has a problem with the 3-4 clutch,they wear out ,

you can check this yourself by doing something that sounds odd but hear me out.

you have to feel each shift ,1-2-3-4 lock up ,and doing it with the shifter manually is another way also ,if the shit to 3rd flares to neutral, there ya go,clutch is done ,

to feel the TC clutch disengage ,maintain throttle, observe the tach and touch the brake pedal, those old 60's are not as soft as todays TCC and the tach will jump up slightly say 200 RPM.

anyway ,thats all you can do to check ,but a road test with a tranny guy that KNOWS the 60 is what you should do

changing the oil will NOT repair it.

if you get it rebuilt ,have the shop flush the cooler ,GM machine also mearsures the flow rate thru the cooler ,i know , GM needs those numbers for warranty purposes as plugged coolers blow up trannies

Gm sells a rebuilt tranny and has a very nice 3 yr warranty,or he can rebuild yours and has a 1 yr warranty

good luck
