Please help, I drained my battery down after alittle bit using my truck to charge my computer. Now after i bought a new battery b/c that's what the "GM SERVICE TECH" friend i know said to do. Still wont start and he's stumped. It say's service 4wd and won't turn over. I think it lost it's security settings. I tried to jump it 3 different times before buying a new battery. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I am camping right now and no where near a dealership. any input would be appreciated. THanks I will check back soon if anyone has an ideas how to reset the security setting without seeing a dealership. I also have an aftermarket radio w/ NO ONSTAR NOW, if that matters. I Can go home today and get my factory radio if that is what making something not right.

maybe your alternator? the same thing happened to me before and it was the alternator

correct me if i'm wrong isn't the alternator for keeping a charge in the battery?

Does it crank/turnover? Is the security light on? If it trys to start and security light is on its a security issue and you maybe lucky to disconnect and wait a few minutes and reconnect the neg battery cable to reset.

Does the PRNDL light up and what gear does it indicate?

What kind of radio, is it a nav unit, do you run video through it if is a nav unit?

Did you check all the fuses? Make sure and check the #60 fuse labeled strtr and the 175amp mega fuse. The mega fuse can only be checked with volt meter or test light but it is quite common to blow this fuse if the vehicle is improperly jump started. Quite a few will cause a no crank. I don't want to point out the obvious but the battery terminals are tight right?

Also post some more info about the vehicle what engine and trans are in it if you know.

Now that I'm typing it out I would look at the mega fuse first, my bet is that thing is blown.

I will check the fuse. I am going back up there soon with my factory radio. talked to a tech guy and said that might be the problem 50/50. I will check that fuse as well. I will bring my volt meter. Also you asked about the PRN123. it lights up but there is NO line underneath it showing what gear it's in. This is my last attempt or i'll be calling AAA to tow it to the garage where my buddy works at to hook it up to the computer. WIll let you guys know the details later on tonight. I really appreciate your guy's help!!!! :D

Just for the heck of it, leave the key in the on position for like 10 minutes and then try to crank it. I have a friend that has to do this occasionally with his Grand Am. Kind of a security relearn. Maybe that will help. Good luck!

No problem, if the truck doesn't know what gear it's in it won't crank. But I think the neutral saftey is going to get power from something that it also fed off the 175 amp mega fuse.

Maybe just give it a shot. But when I had to do a security relearn after my tune I had to do that 3 times.

BlackBear's instructions were:

1. Turn key to run position. Security light will come on. Leave it like that for 10-12 minutes until the security light goes off.

2. Remove key from ignition for 45 seconds.

Repeat that 3 times. Should take about 40 minutes total.

After the third time the security light should not stay on and the truck should start.

Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
