2500 Suburban Advice.

Looking at an 07-10 2500 Suburban, 4x4 and I have several questions. I used to have a 2000 Silverado and a 2004 Suburban and between first hand knowledge and boards like here, I feel I have that generation pretty much figured out, but I have paid NO attention to the newer models. Because of that, I have a several questions.

1) Are there any "suburban" problems in general? They look very nice, fit and finish is better. Any bugs hiding anywhere?

2) Is the 6.0 used the same 6.0 as the previous generation Suburban? I have driven one of those and was very disappointed. To be honest, I am a big block guy and would not hesitate at the 8.1 if it was available in this generation Suburban.

3) Is the transmission the 4l80e? Did they switch to a 6 speed at some point like the 1500's or are they all 4 speeds?

4) Are the frame, suspension and axles the same as the previous generation or different?

5) I have read a lot about 5.3 oil consumption with the "displacement on demand" (or whatever GM calls it) engines. Does the 6.0 have this system and are there oil consumption issues with this engine?

6) What kind of improvements can be had with a tune like Westers? I had a Westers tune on my Silverado and absolutely loved it. Does the 6.0 respond the same way?

Any and all advice and information would greatly be appreciated. Like I said, I have not paid any attention to the current models as I have spent the last few years building my Jeep. Now it is time for something comfortable to haul it from time to time and to haul my family everywhere.

Thanks so much!

From what I undersand the new 2500 Suburbans use the same frame as the previous GMT-800 with little changes, that being said the engine and trans are different. The 6.0 gasser is a little different but very similar to the the LQ4, but now puts out about 350hp vs 300. The trans is now the 6 speed 6L90. It is supposed to be very robust, and the gears really help it out vs the long gears in the old 4L80. The 10.5 14bolt FF is still the rear. And as always a good tuner will really wake up the truck, by limiting the amount or engine and torque management.
