Firework Truck-for The 3rd Time

Hi Guys...

Most of you probably know that I am working with a GM dealer body shop who recently replaced the roof panel of my 2004 GMC Extended Cab pickup. I took the vehicle back, complaining that they had installed the factory clearance lights offset 1" to the left side of the truck, and also had the left side light 1/2" forward (relative to the position of the passenger side light). The dealer's body shop manager approached the tech who performed the work, and lo and behold, the tech stated that in fact he DID construct a template to place and install the lights (and XM and onstar antennas) using my original roof panel.

Nevertheless, the manager clearly didn't deny the apparent offset of the lights, and said that they would indeed correct the problem! The solution, he said, would likely involve finding a similar truck to reconstruct the measurements.

Well, on Friday afternoon he called and left me a message...apparently, a similar truck came in for service, and the lights were offset just like mine. In other words, apparently GM didn't line things up to start with...!

I can hardly believe it. Is this crazy??

So, I have a request for you who have the factory clearance lights...can one of you do some quick measurements of the outboard lights on both sides and tell me if they are indeed asymetrically installed?

Sorry about revisiting this topic, but I will be returning the shop's phone call tomorrow, and I thought I would throw this out here before I respond to their latest revelation. Thank you for any help you guys can give me!

Ken
