Regular Oil Or Extended Life?

I'm running Mobil-1 full synthetic oil and according to the Oil Life Remaining calculator, I've been needing an oil change about every 12000 miles. Should I use the Extended Life oil which is good for at least 15000 miles...or the normal synthetic oil? The Extended Life oil cost a couple dollars more per quart. Thanx for your input!

Neither. Change it at 10,000 :fume: You must do alot of highway driving.

Change it when the truck tells you to in my opinion.

But check it every month or so...You may need to add some from time to time.

IMO, always use the best you can get and you will never regret it.

Yes, I do a lot of highway driving...here in the desert it's a long ways to anywhere!

I do trust the oil life calculator, but I'm unsure if I'm wasting $$ using "extended life" synthetics vs regular synthetics. The first (and last) time I changed the oil it was with the "extended life".

Regular old cheapass dino oil, not even a brand name half of the time (I bought what was cheapest because I was military. See: broke) without any fancy additives or anything...Took my '89 Chevy truck's 5.0 liter to the 350,000 mile marker.

Put the oil that the manual tells you to in your truck, at the intervals that the truck tells you to. But like I said...Check it from time to time to make sure that it's level. If you've got one that burns oil, a 10,000 mile interval could have you burning up your motor if you haven't topped it off.

You are using a good oil now but the Extended Mobil 1 is a better oil that is engineered for higher drain intervals. If you want to know if you really need to change then do an oil analysis. BlackStone Labs is one source to use and Dyson Analysis is another place. Yes it will cost you but at least you know how well your engine is doing. You might be able to just continue as you are and then you will have the peace of mind all is good. Just a suggestion.
