Yearly Maintanence?

Hey guy just wondering what kind of miantanence I should be doing on my truck once a year? My truck is a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Classic Z71 4wd.

Change the oil. I change the transmission fluid and filter about every 30,000 miles. Other than that nothing you really need to worry about until 100K, except for your air filter.

I dont think there is such a thing as "yearly maintenance" on vehicles. the Owners manual will tell you all you need to know. I go by miles rather than time. When I buy a used vehicle I get most everything done within the first year, then I know my schedule. Air filter, Motor Oil/filter, Spark Plugs, differential oil, transmission oil/filter, Fuel filter, coolant, even brake fluid. At least then I know when the last time its been done, and I can drive with peace of mind. after that 100,000km for coolant, transmission. 5000km motor oil filter. 75000 fuel filter. 30,000 air filter. I've never done brake fluid twice on a vehicle. Except a 1986 Winnebago that leaked about a quart a month , lol.

Lube all locks and hinges, and use protectant on all weatherstrip.

 

Vacuum and hose out the cowl.

+1. Before and after the winter season I always get down on my creeper under the truck, grab a garden hose, and try to blast all the dirt/salt from every hidden nook & cranny I can find.

I don't know about doing it once a year. I usually do this more often on my vehicles. I pull all the old power steering fluid out of the reservoir and replace it with new fluid. Normally I do it about every other engine oil change.

Seems very excessive to me as most never do it, including me.

 

I would also be afraid of getting air trapped in there if your sucking it out.

 

What are your reasons for changing it so often?

I dont do much, just oil changes every 4-5k miles.

Have you ever pulled the PS fluid out of the reservoir and seen how black it is? If your truck is like mine, you have the PS reservoir, the PS cooler and the rack itself to get the oil out of. A quart only costs about $5. Pull the fluid out of the reservoir and fill it back with the new fluid. Drive it until next change and pull the fluid again, it will be just as black as the first time. I know the person that had the truck before me did not do a whole lot of maintenance. I just want the truck to hang with me as long as possible, and this buys me some piece of mind.

Power steering fluid every other oil change? Geeze. I changed mine when my truck hit 100,000 miles and I won't worry about it again til I hit 200K. Most people never even change that stuff. Even brake fluid is good to go for 2 years before it really needs to be changed. Waste of money IMO. The power steering fluid has never been changed in my 94'. Not gunna have any problems unless you have a leak and are low on fluid. It isn't lubricating critical engine parts like motor oil.

 

And how much maintenance could the person that owned your 2007 before you be doing besides oil changes. There isn't really anything that needs to be done besides maybe changing transmission fluid and filter depending on how many miles that truck has.
