4wd Transfer Case Motor

2004 Sierra SLE Z71 1500 Short box, regular cab

Hey guys,

 

I engaged my push button 4-hi and it would not switch back to 2wd. It would make a noise like the transfer case motor was trying to engage two times with about a 3 second gap between attempts. The lights would flash for 2wd and then go right back to 4-hi.

 

The next day i went in the truck the next day and now the truck was in 4-lo and the "service 4wd" notification was displaying. and then the lights went out on the push button switches, all while remaining in 4-lo.

 

I removed the transfer case motor and connected it to a 2002 Tahoe. The lights on the push button did not light up.

 

I'm fully aware of how to get the transfer case into neutral when the push buttons are working (push and hold 2-hi and 4-lo while in neutral), but is anyone aware of a way to get the transfer case in neutral manually, not electronically?

 

The gears do not line up, thus keeping me from installing the transfer case motor.

turn sector shaft as far as it will go clockwise and thats 4L. Go back CCW one detent and that is neutral.
