10 Minute Time Out?

Is there a way to program my truck (2010 GMC Sierra SLE SBRC 4x4) to run for longer than 10 minutes? With winter coming 10 minutes is not long enough to warm up the truck.

Not other than buying an aftermarket remote start. Also it will only start it 3 times with the remote, after that 3 you'll have to use the key to reset it. Mine always seemed to be warm though at the end of that 10 minutes

If you have a decent engine block heater you can set it up to come on 1-2 hrs before you leave in the morning and the coolant will be warm on start-up, no need to run it 10 minutes and it will you cost less, and pollute less.

The standard GM factory remote system in TRUCKS will run for TWO consecutive

10 minute time periods.

Then truck must be started with a key to "reset" the system to

enable the remote again.

You can initiate a second remote start sequence before your truck shuts off. It has been cold the last few mornings and I've used mine. If I think its been close to the 10 minutes I just repress the remote buttons and it resets.

 

I have to say that this is one of the many reasons I will probably have an after market module put in my truck this fall. The OEM range sucks, 10 min is far to short in any New Hampshire winter, no valet mode and having a two way remote would be a nice bonus.

10 mins should get the truck a good head start on warming up, yeah sure its not going to be overly warm in there since the heat only comes on as low when you remote start it (mine does anyway?) But once you get in and crank the heat and doesn't take long to warm the cab up.

I don't find mine too bad. When remote started the heat cranks on when it senses the outside temperature is a certain amount, and the heated seats are on full. After 7-8 min, its really not that bad (mind you, we haven't hit the cold dead of winter yet, LOL)

Truck is always warm enough for me after 10 min (Diesel too!) but the nice part is that the heated leather seats kick on as well with the remote start when it's cold so I'm ALWAYS warm I'm gonna miss that feature when I sell her

One thing to concider is that if the truck comes a block heater in the truck and its pluged in the remote starte will not work..or if the hood is not closed all the way the remote start will not work.

Is this something new? On my '05 the block heater is not connected to anything in the truck for the ECM to know it is plugged in.

I guess it is......Becuase my 05 never had a issue of starting with it pluged in
