Allison Transmission Pto

I'm looking for a mid-2000's GM 3500 4x4 to be used with a service body. I need to be able to use the PTO available on the Allison Transmission. How do I tell which trucks have the PTO-ready transmission? I have been told that not all trucks are capable of PTO operation.

allisons have a PTO cover on both sides and the gear IS inside and ready to go

Thanks for your reply. I was specifically told that even though the cover may be there that the PTO gear may not be, this is from the people who rig out the trucks for a living. I may have to travel a good distance to get the truck and I want to make sure I can get a PTO ready transmission before I spend big bucks only to be disappointed.

take a 15 mm socket and rachet and pull the cover when you get there to be 100% sure

Not too handy to travel 1,000 miles only to discover that the truck won't work for what I need, not to mention the plane tickets. I was hoping there was an indicator on the VIN # or other such tell-tale sign.

 

If it comes down to it I will physically check for the PTO gear. Thanks for the info.
