96 Chevy K1500 Tranny

im about to add a 6 inch lift with 35s i have heard from multiple people that the extra strain on the transmission will cause it to go out soon after. what kind of tranny comes stock in this truck and is there away to rebuild it once it happens so it wont go out again or is there a heavier duty tranny that i could replace it with

- your '96 K1500 will have a 4L60E transmission

- if you ever need to get it rebuilt, there are upgrade parts to improve the transmission shifting

- but even the upgraded transmission parts with a rebuild will not ensure that it will not get toasted again with a big lift, big tires, and aggressive driving.

 

- there are some performance rebuilders on line .. check them out to see if they have any recommended transmission for your truck

I prefer to stay away from the chains. That said you will need to check around locally.... Your upgrade to 35's should not be too much of an issue, I would build and drive until you have problems.
