Bcm Issues And A Question

Hello all,

My buddy has a 2008 H3 and recently had to replace the BCM. I was not part of the diagnosis that determined it needed to be replaced. We are in Korea, so dealerships literally don't exist. He ordered it from a dealership in the states and gave his VIN to get the correct part. He was told that no programming was necessary and that it should be a plug and play deal. When he told me this I instantly disagreed and as it turns out was right. The only thing the truck will do with the new BCM is lock and unlock the doors. Nothing else works. I told him that he needed to get the BCM programmed to his vehicle via a tech 2.

Can the BCM be programmed prior to installation?

Is there a device besides the tech 2 that can accomplish the programming?

Thanks in advance, and I am really looking for actual information from experience but still appreciate everyone's best guesses too.

You can also do it through any J2534 pass-thru programmer. But you will need to have access to the GM Web site. If you can find someone on here that has access and would let you use there account you could do it that way. Almost all large shops can no program with the pass-thru programmer.....
