2000 Gmc Side Mirrors(broke)

Both of my side mirrors broke the spring that keeps them in place, there still good but now they move and dont lock into place. How do I fix this or do I need to buy a new mirror?

i would never buy anything important from pep boys, but they sell that style replacment mirrors at pep boys cheap

On my 2001 I removed the mirror, then the cap off the back. You should be able to re-compress the spring over the post by using a piece of scrap pipe to push down on top of the the ring and get it to re-adhere on the post. It wasn't hard at all, the part that was the most time consuming was removing the mirror and the back cap........all told took an hour.

not with the turn signals in them. What broke is the locking tab on the bottom of the mirror, you know how the mirror will fold in for goin in a car wash or if you hit it. It was froze up and someone hit it and now you can push it and it wont lock into place
