Abs And Brake Light - Can't Scan?

Both the ABS and Brake light came on in my 2005 Silverado 5.3 4wd after I changed the transmission out (old one failed).

 

I bought and Actron 9449 ABS scanner and it cannot communicate with the EBCM. I tried the scanner on my other truck (2006 sierra) and it worked fine.

 

I assume this means bad control module? I don't and never did hear the pump running. I checked the fuse for the ABS under the hood with a DMM and it tested fine.

 

Any other ideas or reccomendations?

9 times out of ten it's a bad module or a bad ground for the module. Hope and prey it's not the 800 dollar module. Of course it can usually be fixed for around 100.

Where is the ground for the module? That sounds plausible to me given that I was under there changing the transmission.

I wish I could get you a picture, but if you look under the driver's door and behind the front tire on the front left cab mount you'll see two bolts one bolt will have two wires and the other, only one, but the bigger wire of the three is the ABS wire, make sure it has a good ground there.
