04 Sierra Grinding In 4 Hi

I have an 04 Sierra 1500 Z71 and it has 142,000 kms on it and back in March of 2010 I paid $1800 to have the front differential done because when i used to drive the truck in 4 hi it would make a humming sound when stepping on the fuel and makes a grinding sound when turning to the left or to the right, so after having the work done it still sounds the same just not as much and now this winter i put my truck in 4 hi a few days ago and now i still get the same noise so this time i brought it to a GM dealer and they worked on it and charged me $1100 and they tell me there is nothing wrong and that it is normal 4x4 sounds which i don't believe for 1 second. If that is normal and there is nothing wrong my question was what did i get charged $1100 for? The head technician told me that I could drive any other truck with the same style transfer case which is the auto transfer case that has auto 4x4, 2hi, 4hi, and 4lo. There is no noise in auto 4wd but a lot in 4hi. I asked if a brand new Sierra 1500 Z71 with no kms on it would sound the same and he said yes so i requested to take one for a test drive which i didn't get to do so obviously this is not right and there really is something wrong but they just can't figure it out and don't wanna take the time to fix it properly, i said they wouldn't sell too many trucks if they all sounded like that in 4hi. Can anyone please point me in the right direction to see what the problem really is? My dad has the same truck as me and he says when he switches his truck into 4hi it doesn't sound any different then having it in 2hi just less turning radius. I don't wanna keep spending money for nothing and 1 person telling me its normal and nother telling me it isn't? what should i do?

Mine makes noise in 4hi. Hits the high note at 30mph. I would leave it alone.

Take a look at your cv joints on the front. My 1999 gmc 1/2 4 x4 does the same thing 300,000km. Front diff or transfer case has never made any metal. I really suspect cv joints. let us know what you find.

Well I just hate to keep throwing money into this and still not solving the problem and why would the GM technician tell me there is nothing wrong when clearly there is if its making all this noise, i mean i am sure not every single GM truck built has this same noise.
