Squeaky Belt? Pulley?

When I start my truck cold, it sounds like the belt is squeaking. It goes away after 5 or 10 mins. I had a car w/ a similar prob, turned out it was a bad belt tensioner. My truck is still under warranty. Is there anything I can check @ home before I take it to the dealer? Last time my truck was in the shop they charged me $53 to tell me nothings wrong. Thanks for the help.

Mine did/does the same thing. I had it at the dealer when I first bought it for this issue and they replaced the belt and the chirp went away for a few thousand miles and then came back and its squeaked ever since, especially when its cold. The other day I figured out it was the belt again by misting some water on it as it ran. It would quiet up for a second and then start chirping again. Here is what I did to stop the squeaking.

 

Went inside and got my shotgun cleaning kit, put the cleaning rods together and attached an old 12 gauge brush. With the engine running, I lightly polished/cleaned both sides of the belt and the chirping/squeaking went away immediately, and remains gone as of today as well. The cleaning rod enabled me to do this (very carefully) without getting my hands anywhere near the pulleys/belt, but I was still very careful with the rod. If I could have located a Goodyear Gatorback belt in my town, I would have replaced my belt with one and will as soon as I can find one as they are very resistant to squeaking/glazing.

 

There are lots and lots of folks on here that have the cold start belt squeaking with the GMT-900 truck and I would guess that most of the cases are caused by glazing on the belt and can be fixed very easily.

Just replaced the belt and both tensioners on the 2005 after months of the infamous "chirp" and thankfully it's quiet.. For now...
