8" Whiplash Suspension

Alirght, guys haven't been around for a while cause of school and some other sh*t, but I am back. I am about to get an 8" Whiplash for my 99 Silverado and had a few questions. What all do I need to get in order to have everything work correctly? Do I need to get a chip made for it? I know that a HPPIII will only go up to 34" tires and I am going to run 36" or 37" tires. Also, I am thinking of replacing my gears, which gears are the best and what ratio should I get?? Also, I am going with black rims, who makes the rockcrawlers and some other black rims? Also, I do NOT have a transmission cooler on my Z71, should I get one???

                                        Thanks, Chris

Get a tranny cooler, for 50 bucks it's good insurance.

If you're going to run 37's you'll most definetly want 4.56 gears.  I'm not sure of what mfg makes the best.

Check out the superlift tru-speed unit to adjust your speedo.  I'm pretty sure that will adjust for taller tires.

Also, make sure they do a good job on the install, it seems like everyone bashes whiplash for crummy work, but I've never seen one myself.  If nothing else you could always get a superlift or pro-comp 6" and a 3" body lift which is a tried and true method to get 9" of height at least.

Oh yeah, A.R. has some black rims, but check out http://www.4wheelparts.com to see what they've got for tires/rims

If I could make a suggestion get these:

The biggest they go is 35's but they are great tires.  I really like my x-terrains, and for as knobby as they look they are very quiet on the freeway which was a big concern of mine.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about a Full Throttle kit but cannot find anyone in Knoxville, TN to install it. Anyone know of any good off road shops here!! I know LarryE lives around here, wonder if he knows anywhere!!! HELP!!! I don't want to pay alot of money for a lift that is going to have problems!!  ???  ???  ???

I'm not 100% sure, but I though full throttle only installed there lifts.

IMO, you'd be better off w/ a superlift or pro-comp lift.  Ask DiHappy about his lift.  Get that for 1500 bucks and a bodylift for another 250 and you'll be set.  The full throttle will run you about that price anyways.

Just my $.02

You could try Super Shops on Broadway by I-675, I think.  They might be able to do it.  I also think that beadlocks are not DOT approved street rims.  Can anyone verify this?

This is true, most sites will say that they are not DOT approved right next to the rim when ordering.  There are some rims that have the beadlock look if that's what you want.

But, in your situation I wouldn't worry about it, beadlocks are for running at really low PSI's and you usually have a low PSI while rock crawling, and call me crazy, but for some reason I don't think you'll be taking your truck out rock crawling any time soon.

Its probably too late, and a decison has already been made, but RockCrawlers are not hub centric, so if you are going to be doing a lot of highway driving stay away, otherwise, for off-roading, go ahead!

I'm sure it's probably too late by now, but I'd stay away from Whiplash lifts.  I've seen a couple break and have seen pictures of mis-aligned brackets/holes, etc.  My friend put a Full Throttle lift on his '99 and loves it.  As far as medium sized lifts, I like the RCD & Fabtech.  Big lifts, I'd only run the Full Throttle.

I Love the GMC they have with the Full throttle Lift on their site.

I just read in another thread the Fabcraft 6" increase the front track width 5" over stock.  I like the RCD 6" but I need 8" for 35's because Im not interesting in having rubber on the back of fender and trimming the valance on a 2500 Crew with 35 12.50-16.5 on 9.75X 16.5 Welds

A lift that increases the track width just accentuates the need for more lift to clear.
