92 Gmc With 4wd Problems

Is there some aftermarket product that you can buy to replace the 4 wheel drive actuator for the front differential? I replaced mine last year and am having to replace the same part again this year. Is there a mechanical actuator out there to replace the electronic one?

I believe the 1 ton 4x4 trucks have an electronic stepper motor which will bolt in (comes with a shim), but you will also need the wiring harness to go with it.

GM sells it, I doubt you can find both pieces aftermarket.

Its hard to believe you need to replace your actuator so frequently.

My truck(1994ecsb) had 370+++ Kilometers on it, and still worked good. I only had to replace a switch on the transfer case in that time. And YES, I usd 4x4 all the time, year-round.

You can install a cable setup or a plug to leave it permanently engaged. Both are pictured on that website. You can also ghetto fab permanent engagement using a wooden dowel between the actuator and the fork. You'll have to search the internet for specifics.
