Any experience with Hercules Terra Trac A/T tire? Locally place has them for $140/tire which is int he same league as Cooper, Firestone, etc. Can't find much about them by googling though.

I've run a set of these on two different Tahoe's, one '97 and one '01. They were initially purchased as a dedicated snow tire but due to my tastes I decided to run them year round. I had them on the '97 for probably around two years and did a lot of driving on them in all sorts of conditions. They handled great in the snow, both on and off-road, they handled well on wet and dry road/highway conditions, and I had no problems with them off-road, in both dry and wet conditions. Clearly they're an a/t tire so certain terrain isn't going to be great, but I never got stuck with them.

In the interest of full disclosure I will add that I had one blow on out the '01 Tahoe. I can't recall how many miles I had put on them, though I know it was quite a bit as I did a lot of highway driving. I'm not entirely sure as to why the one tire blew, but the entire sidewall shredded while I was on the highway. It's kind of strange too as I didn't beat the tires on the '01 up nearly as much as the ones on my '97 (I miss that truck like you wouldn't believe), and I never had anything happen to those.

Actually, now that I think about it more I do recall that the guy at the dealership I took the Tahoe to mentioned to me that the tire that blew was rather dry and brittle, and there were signs that it was happening to another one of the tires still on it. I don't know if that's a reflection on the tire as a whole or just on the conditions to which I had them exposed, but hey, you asked.

Like I said though, I had put a good amount of wear on them, and they did drive/handle well.
