Grease Guns

Hello All,

 

I have a question for the fourm. I am trying to decide whether

or not to buy a pneumatic grease gun to do the lubrication on the

front end of my 02Tahoe. I have a couple general question for

those who have use them:

 

How do they work?

 

How loud are they (say compared to an air ratchet)?

Does any one own this one (experiences)?

 

And once again, what grease is everyone using for their 02 Tahoe's?

we have 2 in our shop, one on our mack tool truck, one on our ford tool truck and one on each mine location.

 

We have the big industrial strength but they all are good, and well worth the money, and when the grease warms up you can shoot it about 2000 feet  

 

we just use white lithium grease in everything.

 Pneumatic greasers are nice, but you must be doing a lot of greasing to justify the expense of the greaser and compressor. I've seen some grease that is like "cheese whiz" in a can.  It is self pressurized and is not too messy.  We also have one at work that is a battery powered unit that works pretty slick too.

WRT the cost...I own a manual grease gun, and I used it on my

last truck before the tahoe, a 77 El Camino. I was pretty tiresome

getting grease to all the nipples. Now the Tahoe has more fittings

to grease. I already own a compressor and the grease gun is only

$18, very cheap, so I figured this would be a good buy and would

make the job a little easier.

 

I think I will be getting the gun and a tube of  mobil 1 synth.

When it comes to grease guns we've used manual pistol grip ones around the farm here for years.  Finally bought a cordless one about two months ago when they went on sale for $40 for a 7.2V model, it kicks ass.  Busts right through all the tough fittings on all our equipment with hardly a problem.  Bought another one two weeks ago when they went on sale again.  I'd prefer it over a pneumatic one by a long shot, no limits from hose length, portable, etc.

what are you worried about the noise for...go out and get one. they aren't that loud they are quieter than popping a balloon if that helps!

Just bought a Lincoln model 1163 from the Tool Warehouse.  It makes very little noise and works great.  Operates up to 150 psi air pressure and puts out 6000 psi at that air pressure.  They have it on sale right now for $55.00.  plus S&H and taxes if they apply.  Checkout their website.

actually  wlg can be used on anything,  we've used it for uncountable years on all our 10 and 18 wheelers that haul 60K ton a load 24/7 360 days a year and it holds up better than any other kind of grease we have ever tried.

yup   never had a problem with it on my truck yet and with the lowering components they need alot of lubing to keep stress down.

Hi All,

 

I wanted to update my status with the chassis greasing. Since I

last posted, I now have 7500 miles on by Tahoe. It has been to

Tahoe 3 times and I love this truck!

 

Yesterday I changed the oil for the 2nd time and greased the 11

zerks in the frontend with the air operated grease gun I was

asking about:

I went and bought the gun at harborfreight for ~$12! It

included as steel pipe and rubber hose adapter, plus an

NPO air quick connector!  

 

I loaded up a tube of Mobile 1 synthetic and went to work.

The gun is a great deal and made the job alot easier.  

I ran the gun at ~100PSI and that gave me the control to

stop the grease when I wanted. :thumb:

 

Thanks for all the help with this. I recommend this gun for

anyone who does there own lube jobs. It is very cheap and

well worth the 12 bucks.
