Speedometer stepper motor goes crazy and pegs at max but only does it when I drive in snow???

Mine did that on a 03 I had. Started happening in the cold weather. Warm weather it would work fine. Then after a while it was wet weather, then it was no rhyme or reason had a mind of it's own. It thankfully did not affect the odometer, just the speedometer. I needed a new module. Cost about 350.
