1996 Transfer Case- 1500 Sle

Recently my transfer case has started to make noises like none other. It slams in and out of four wheel drive which feels like the front end is going to fall out; but more annoying is the brake-rotor on pad like noise that I'm hearing whenever in 4wd (only). I just replaced the fluid again (108k miles), and it came out looking decent. Anyone have any clue what might be going on? Thanks

Nice to meet you too,

If informative forum's (such as this one I believe) are a waste of time;

Why are you here?

I don't find it ridiculous to think there is a decent mechanic that knows what he's doing that could aid me in diagnosing a problem, common Autotrac failures, etc.

And judging by your spelling. You're not that help I'm looking for.

Hmm, sorry for the trouble your dealing with, especially since your new to the site, if your trying to find help to trouble shoot your GM truck, you've found the perfect site to ask a question. Welcome to GM-Trucks. Now there could be a few things that could be happening here. If your truck has the switch on the dash, which uses vacuum to shift the T-case, it may not be fully engaging it in 4wd, which would cause your T-case to "jump" in & out of gear, you may have a vacuum leak. However if yours is a floor shift, it may not be engaging all the way and your shifter linkage will have to be adjusted, and the last thing i can think of is you may have a bad u-joint or bad CV-shaft, which would cause front end clunking. Good luck, hope this helped. -Brad

I did notice today that under a load, in 4wd, I get a clunk every so often when I'm getting into the throttle aswell. It is the push-button, and I will start with those two things. Thanks

I don't see how someone could hate people for spending money on their old trucks, (especially when they own one). I guess some people don't like to get their hands dirty anymore and save a few bucks.

So, thats why you would turn to a site like this to find solutions to help diagnose the problem. I just like fixing stuff myself, to save myself a few bucks from ridicoulously high labor costs., Besides you don't learn anything when someone else does it for you.
