Adding Keyless Entry

Greetings,

I have a 97 gmc 1500 with power door locks AU3 and wile to add keyless entry AU0. Is it as simple as buying the remote reciever and plugging it in or would it be simpler just buy an after market kit.

I was looking to do this in my 98 as well, best way to do it factory would be to find the receiver and the wiring pigtail at a junk yard and look at the diagrams for both options and splice it in accordingly. I plan on this still, I just havent found a AU0 equipped junker yet.
