Gm's Towing Mirrors

The other day 1 of my neighbours who has a Tundra pulled up & asked me how I liked the mirrors on my truck. I said I really liked them since they were similiar to the mirrors on my father's '75 & '79 C/K trucks I learned to drive in. Told him they were much better than the so-called tow mirrors on my departed '04.

I asked him why? He didn't like the Toy's mirrors. He also mentioned that another area Tundra owner hated his (I had heard this previously). One more Toyota item was that he was @ his dealer & saw a new Tundra w/ the mirrors removed. He asked what that was about. Apparently the customer had bought the truck (which had the towing mirrors). The customer had previous experience w/ the towing mirrors & had replaced them w/ the conventional mirrors. The dealer was swapping the mirrors.

Bill also said that one of the local contractors replaced his GMT800 w/ a new F150 & didn't like the mirrors on it.

Any vision/visibility complaints about the tow mirrors that GM has been using the last few years?

I have the towing mirrors on my 08 which I installed a few months about and absolutely love them! I can see much better with my trailer and backing up is a breeze.

My dad just put a set on his 08 sierra and the are very nice, much easier trailering as well. Just an FYI there are sets on ebay that are virtually identical for other brands as well. Funny you mention toyota, as I just saw a pic of a toyota with the GM style mirrors.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.

    • Wouldn't swapping out the original AFM/DFM parts for a complete Delete Kit be the best route to go if one could afford to go that route?
    • It comes with directions but yes, generally, it's the same.  Also, get you the dipstick stuff to install dipstick so you have one.
