Front Differential Question

With the autotrac 4wd system if the FRONT is up in the air, tires off the ground, and the vehicle is in 2WD, and PARK. Are the FRONT tires suppose to turn freely by hand? If only ONE FRONT tire is off the ground should it still spin freely by hand. Its a 2001 Tahoe LS. Does not have the G80 it has the GT4 3.73 which is the rear Diff anyway.

I have found out that the FRONT drive shaft should NOT spin freely in park, and 2wd on models 2005, and older Autotracs.

The wheels should spin freely, independent of each other.

Okay if that is true what could be going on? It goes in, and out of 4wd all ranges. No problems while in 4wd. I just happend to notice when I jacked up the passenger side to check the front hub, I could not spin the tire.

Is it possible the front diff actuator is not fully disengaging. Only just enough not to be in 4wd. Or is it engaged or disengaged. I have been hearing a low howl which I'm thinking is a wheel bearing because it gets a little louder when turning one way, and quiets down when turning the other way.
