I have a 2007 nnbs crew cab sierra 5.3. I had a magnaflow muffler put in place of the stock muffler when the truck had 2000 miles. now the truck has 40000 miles and I think the fiberglass is burned out of the muffler because it is starting to drone more and more with every road trip. My question is, does it help with drone to change the factory cat back from 2.5 to 3 inch?? I also want to go to a chamber muffler like a flowmaster so I dont have to worry about the fiberglass burning out again. What is the difference between the multiple flowmaster 50 series mufflers or do most people just use the 70 series??

a 50 series delta flow is probably the quietest FM muffler i would ever buy again. in the cab you can tell its not stock, but it definately doesnt sound stock outside. when you tromp on it, it barks outside. i highly recommend a 50 series delta flow for low interior sound, but good sound outside.

however i just switched from a flowmaster muffler, to a magnaflow muffler

Most people that go with flowmasters, go with 40 series, but if I was putting exhaust on my truck, I'd go with corsa sport. And I highly doubt pipe size will help with the drone, there are, however resonators that will.

the flowmaster 40 series has probably the worst drone out of all the flowmaster mufflers, the 50 series puts out good sound outside, but leaves probably 75% of the exterior noise outside. the 40 series sounds good for a few months but gets old really quick in something you drive every day. worst part about it, is that you cant even hear the "flowmaster" tone inside, only a loud drone... also you can get the 50 series delta flow in stainless for $10 more than a regular 50 series on summitracing.com

I had 70, 50, and 40 series on my 5.3.... each getting louder. The 40-series droned like a mother inside the cab especially when towing. :dunno: Not a fan of flowmaster myself. For a single exit, 3" is fine and for dual exit, 2.5" works better.

For me, I had the reverse experience. I loved the magnaflow compared to the flowmaster. :M16:
