1998 Driveline Clunk

Does anyone have an idea why my '98 z71 may have just started having a clunk in the driveline when I let off the gas and the tranny downshifts? Is mine in need of the blue stuff that the '99's and up have the TSR for to stop this? Thanks for all the ideas.

man no trucks are safe from this.

 

You may also wanna try and lube the splines (like the fix for the 99 and up trucks)

 

I dont think they blue fluid would work in your case

It wouldn't hurt to check your universal joints.  How many miles are on your truck?

U joints may be the culprit. I'd start there first, especially if you have quite a few miles on.

I found my culprit I tore out my tranny yesterday morning right in front of work. I posted the details on dropped tranny. I did talk to the dealer and they said it would not hurt to put in the autotrak fluid in the transfer case. Since it has friction modifiers. They were no real help.
