I`ve towed a 5500# trailer one time in a hell of a head wind, handling wise I was very impressed, much better then my 98 GMC, The engine does have power but its really high in the RPM range, it does take off the line pretty well due to gearing, but be used to it staying in 4th or 5th most the time if hauling big loads close to the max rating in TOW/HAUL mode or you can manually shift I guess too.

My last truck was a 454 with a supercharger and although the 6.2 has about the same HP, i really miss the extra 200+ Ft/Lbs. but I really enjoy the mileage of the new engine. :D

We towed a 26' travel trailer (around 7000lbs) into a 50-60 mile per hour headwind with our 2008 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2/sp/3.42 and it towed it fine. We ran around 2800 rpms and 35-45 mph in tow haul mode. We had no idea that the wind was blowing that hard until we got home several hours later and heard on the news the wind speed and the roads were closed because of it (closed after we got through due to even higher wind speeds and blowing dust).

The power was more than enough for the weight and resistance of the trailer, the suspension was near the limits at times. I never felt a lack of power or stopping ability, just handling with that weight. I suspect it was the luxury suspension of the Yukon XL Denali that did it.

We now have a 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD CCSB 6.0 3.73 but have not towed with it yet (just got past 500 miles).. I fully expect it to handle the trailer better. Yes, it rides rougher, does not have the sound or power of the 6.2 and certainly does not get the fuel economy of the Denali...

Thanks guys.I'm going to the local trailer dealer tomorrow.I'll be looking at Travel Trailers rather than 5th wheels due to the fact that I just bought a Lear topper so our Chocolate Lab can ride in the bed of the truck.I'll keep you all posted.-Andy.

I just towed a camper for a friend of mine yesterday. Went from east of Cleveland, Oh to somewhere in southeast West Virginia(about 400 miles each way). Plenty of mountain driving too. Some of the grades were pretty steep. I thought the truck did very well.

I have 3.42's in mine. The motor pulled the camper alot easier then I thought it would. If it would have been my 09 with 5.3 it would have struggled quit a bit. But the 6.2 impressed me. In fact my friend with the camper had an 08 2500 Duramax. Even he thought it pulled quite well.

You wasted no time. Personally, I've not towed anything over 500lbs and I got the lower 3.73 gears.. Didn't even know the trailer was back there.

No need waiting. I towed a small trailer for a friend the day after bought it(only about 800lbs loaded). Couldn't tell it was there.

Impression so far excellent came from a 5.3 with 3.73 to 6.2 with 3.73 but its that 6speed trans that really has inpressed me.
