2008 Silverado Instrument Cluster Failure

Recommended Posts

Restarted my truck after filling up and found the instrument cluster had failed. Pulled over and restarted again only to find the same thing no oil pressure, tach, speedo, shift indicator, airbag light. I then drove another 30 minutes and restarted and everything worked fine. I restarted 3 times since then with no problems.

Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it themselfs or by the dealer. So far I've haven't had any problems in the 19,000 miles I've put on it since buying it new. 5 months left on warranty. I'm sure if I bring it in they won't be able to duplicate the problem telling me it didn't do it while in their possesion.

I Found one other person with the same problem two years ago.

Thanks,

Winston

Welcome to the site. There has been issues with some of the clusters with stepper motors, usually not all at once though. I'd bring it to the attention of the dealership so if they can't find anything wrong, at least you have it documented with GM and they'll be able to help you possibly later.

With that said,... GM doesn't do their own cluster repair, they send them out. Has something to do with mileage tampering to assure there is none. When GM sends them out, most of them are sent to Techni-Car. They are certified cluster repair shop for not just GM but many more manufactures and they are very reasonable and easy to work with. They are located out of Tampa Florida and Cleveland Ohio. Google them and you'll find them pretty quick.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply to my first posting here. If it does this every few years for a few minutes I could live with it. But if this is a sign of it going bad I'd like to know NOW!

Thanks for the information I'll try to bring it into the dealer in the next week or so I didn't see a followup to the thread I found under search so I'll assume it was a one time glitch. I also don't see 20 or more of the same complaints. Otherwise my wife and I are very happy with our Silverado and haven't had any other problems accept the yoke noise but since I understand what the problem is I can live with it.

Thanks,

Winston
