i have a 2008 gmc sierra pu. z71, i was unable to get turn by turn voice, unknown to me since i had drop onstar, this is the only way you can get turn by turn is buy onstar services, so my fac, nav is worthless, so much for gm. they need money so bad they will go the extra mile to rip you off

Odd......my '07 isn't like that. The nav in my truck provides voice turn by turn and I don't have on star.

You don't need onstar for voice guided navigation, so don't be so quick to bash GM. Just so you know, "turn by turn navigation" is a concierge type of service offered by onstar as part of a package. You call onstar and ask them for directions. They download those directions to your nav and it prompts you along the way.

 

Without onstar you can have the system prompt you with directions. You enter the destination on the nav screen as a POI (point of interest) and start navigation to it with voice prompt if you want. You can also store the POI as a voice tag and then just tell the navigation to take me there. To get the voice navigation menues, you press on the voice button on your steering wheel for 2 seconds, release it, and you will hear a "ding". Say help. The system will give you all kinds of help options including navigation help.

 

I use this all the time and it works great. I don't have onstar.

yes you don't need onstar for voice guidance, but if you really need it they are offering a free service for 6 months (at least they send me an email with that special) all you have to do is push the onstar blue button and ask for the 6 month trial!!!
