cghbuilder86 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 On my old '94 silverado the oil presure gauge will fluctuate a fair amount. Is this normal? It's not really bad like gittery or constantly going up and down, I'm sure it's not the gauge. But when slowing down or coming to a stop the pressure will often drop down real low almost to red zone, then it will come back up when you rev it up. It's sure pretty high at intial startup, like a mark or two above 40. Does the truck have an oil pump? If it an inexpensive part or is it like part of the motor?
Mike G Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 How many miles on the old truck. The oil pump is shaft driven by your disributor, located in the lower back half of your oil pan. Chances are it's not the oil pump. Sounds like normal operations to me. --Mike
Kramer Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I agree with Mike G, seems normal from what your saying.
cghbuilder86 Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 yeah, I forgot to say that the truck does have 200,000 miles on it now. A lifter just started a ticking and I wanted to be sure that is was staying lubricated good. Good to know there is not a cheap oil pump part that works like a regular pump.
