Adding Ac To A 1989 Gmc

I have a 1989 GMC3500 that came with no AC from the factory. I've been toying with the idea of getting an under dash mount ac but not sure if they are worth it. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever done it? How do they work and what is involved in the install? Any suggestions about adding ac to this truck would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Shawn

Until the mid-60s most cars weren't available with "factory air", I was just a kid at the time, we had a few cars with the under dash units, from what I remember they worked pretty good.

I had a neighbor who had underdash A/C in his '74 Ford truck and I had a '78 Toyota Truck which had it also, both worked great.Tinted windows will help also

Does anyone know how they work? Is it a self contained box or do you still have to add a compressor, condenser, and drier along with running lines through the firewall?

No, it's not a self contained box. You have to add all the compontents, professional installation recommended.
