Towing With Blackbear Sport Tcm

I know Justing has not recommended it, but wondering if anyone is towing much weight with the sport TCM installed? My 6 speed shifts very smooth under light throttle, and I'm thinking if I take it easy while accelerating I should not damage anything? I'm towing a boat that is about 5500 lbs...

Or, maybe I better take the time to install the Daily-Tow TCM tune? I don't want to damage anything.

Thanks.

I've not towed with Blackbear, but 2 other custom tunes without issue. I don't believe you'll have any issue other than making sure your running the correct octane for the tune. Otherwise you'll have ping.

no hes asking about using the sport transmission tune. and no, its a bad idea. so you have your sport TCM in now. what happens when you hit the tow/haul button with the sport tune in?

when i have my sport tune in my tow/haul is still there

This is how mine works anyway,

I have two sepperate tunes, sport and tow. Sport has TM reduced and shifts firmed up, when the tow/haul button is used while the Sport tune is installed the tranny holds gears longer and shifts down quicker when i lift of the throttle. The tow tune is pretty much like stock but when the tow/haul button is pushed the tranny holds gears longer and shifts down quicker, TM is also completely there with the tow tune.

I would not recommend towing with the sport tune because it has the TM reduced so pulling would put more strain on the tranny.

Also i believe on the 6 spds you can not have to sepperate tunes on one TCM flash, So your tourqe managment stays the same if you hit the tow/haul button. So make sure you have your tow tune in while towing.

I think you guys are crazy.... I have two tunes also... Sport and daily driver. With both tunes when the tow haul is used its the factory tow/haul program...

Maybe its because I have an 06 model but Justin made my tow haul button performance mode, I actually got my truck dynoed after I put in the new PCM and the HP and TQ jumped a good bit! so I probably wouldnt be hauling anything in the tow/haul mode since I had him remove 100% TM removed.

Are you sure? Maybe justin will chime in and let us all know. Until then i will be towing with my tow tune to protect my tranny.

Yea, my sport tune 100% of TM is removed but i tow wuth that tune all the time, i just hit the tow/haul button. I told him i tow alot so maybe he did this on mine for that reason, i have read about guys that have their tow haul set as their sport tune, but all that i have read about are 4spds.

In all likely hood, you would probably be fine. Since you have the opportunity to switch back, I would do so just to be safe.

On 2010 Sierra the two/haul is stock, button out, BB tune.

One thing I notice with the tow\haul mode, the 2-3 shift is so smooth you don't even know it happened if you had the stereo playing loud, and was not looking at the tach.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
