Saikou Michi Co. Oil Catch Can

Recommended Posts

So with all the talk of catch cans a decided to look into them and install one my self. I found lots of reviews of all kinds of cans but most were a bit pricey. I then started seeing more and more people talking about Saikou Michi Co. and they looked to be well made and fairly priced. I spent a few days emailing back and forth about what I wanted and how I would like it configured. I ended up requesting one with NPT female thread fittings instead of the standard tubes they normally weld in.

So far I have worked out where and how I am going to mount it. I have also looked it over and it seems to be very well made, smooth welds and a nice finish. It took them about 2-3 days from the time I ordered the can to the time they shipped it, it shipped on Saturday and was at my door on Monday. The only thing that was a little off about it was the logo wasn't painted on, I was on the fence if I wanted the logo on there or not and even talked to Saikou Michi Co. about different options for the logo. Once I noticed the logo was just a sticker that made it a no-brainer and I took it off.

I am still waiting for the hose and fittings to come in and a day off from work to install it all. So for the part I know everyone loves, PICTURES!!!! I recently moved and couldn't find my camera so please forgive the cell pics and I will get more pictures once the rest of the parts come in.

OK, I give up! An oil catch can for what?

They are used to separate the oil from the PCV blow by keeping your intake cleaner.

Did Saikou Michi Co supply the fittings or did you get them somewhere else?

Catch cans are for PCV blow by.

Saikou Michi normally makes the cans with built in connections for the hoses but I requested it so I could add fittings I wanted as his way looked to take up more room. I ordered the fittings from JEGS, best price and closest match to what I was wanting.

OK, I get the oil separation thing. Please excuse my ignorance, but if you have that much blow by, wouldn't that indicate an issue with your engine?

Even if your engine is running perfect there will still be some oil vapor in the PCV system that will get pumped into your intake for your engine to burn. Here are some links with more info.

Blowby is not the correct term and should not have been used to describe what this can does. The pcv system pulls vapour from the crankcase, and this vapour has oil in it. The can simply separates the oil from the air and collects it in the can. Without the can, the oil ends up in the intake, where it makes a mess.

Looks good congrats. BTW I did the cheap air compressor filter on mine and it has collected over a tbsp of oil in 1,000 miles. This is a good easy mod.

Thanks for correcting that for me, blowby is one of the things listed as a cause in most descriptions of what it does but I should have clarified it better.

Well, the hose, fittings and everything I ordered from Jegs was supposed to be here today. FedEx dropped the ball and screwed that up. I checked the the status of my shipment and they had a note saying "Customer not available or business closed". It really pissed me off as there was no knock at the door, no note on the door and this is the second time this has happen.

Hopefully they deliver it tomorrow so I can get some more pictures and start the install.

I've had them (FedEx) do the same thing, as well as leaving things out by the garage door in damaged packaging that I would have made them inspect while I opened what was left of it. UPS is much better, both in shipping and delivery. JMO

Rant over. Now, back to the show.

OK, finally got my box of goodies but it was dark when I got home so didn't get to install it yet. I ordered a GM hose dress up kit but it didn't fit like I was hoping so not going to use it. Here are some pics of what I ordered and of the can assembled.
