Help: Can I Install A Back Up Camera To My Foactory Nav?

Recommended Posts

ok Guys I ahve an 07 tahoe LTZ ( Didn't come with NAV or backup camera )

I added NAV ( Non DVD) Since they are already in the rear headrest.

Now my wife would like to have a backup camera since we have little kids and things change quick around them.

Do you know if any Camera will plug in and work? Does it have to be factory?

Is my LTZ prewired for the camera? in the tailgagte and behind the stereo if I bought a factory camera?

i didn't want to buy an aftermarket camera and pay someone to pull the Headunit an install it if it wouldn't work?

I guess I can do the install but i am getting lazy and would not want to do the work and find out it was for nothing.

first off you don't really need a lock pick

second in case you don't have the harness for the back up camera you can get it for like $40 on ebay and also a back up camera with night vision for like $17 bucks and you can do the install yourself is really easy, the only thing would be running a wire all the way to the back for the camera but that is easy too

now if the dealer didn't program your h/u for back up camera you are going to have to take your truck to the dealer for programing

but before anything check your h/u and see if you have the option in the menu for turning on and off the back up camera feature, if you do turn it on and put the truck in reverse, if the screen goes black and you see a warning sign that says service back up camera sistem or something like that then your h/u has been programed for back up camera and you will save like $100

let me know if you have any questions

By harness do you mean a factory harness?

I was planning in buying something like this Audiovox Car ACA200W

It was suggested by my local stereo shop.

They thought they could just install it directly to the factory headunit?

darn montyss I wish I had seen this one before I got mine!!!! I like the fact that is wireless and comes with the bezel and a lock, exactly what I was looking for on fleabay for my OEM navigation system, but they didn't know what I was talking about, the only thing is that is kind of pricey

Johnson if you want to save some money and get a decent camera try this http://cgi.ebay.com/Night-Color-Vision-Car...=item2a11dd5ad1

is very similar to the one I have and mine works like a champ!!! and best thing is that if it ever breaks is so cheap to get a new one

and for the harness try this http://cgi.ebay.com/GM-CHEVY-SILVERADO-SIE...=item45fb6af7a6

is exactly the one I got, but you might be able to get it for cheaper maybe from gm parts direct or somewhere else

yep I saw it montyss but the one I have is working like a champ, right now all I need is the new bezel with the lock, which I have seen and is like $50 buck, that and the new harness you sugested for my DL3's I'm just not working that much right now.

johnson did you find out if your nav was programed for back up camera yet?

this rear camera looks interesting and has a Sony camera , wireless backup camera

When I bought my Nav I purchased that harness (so i should be good to go!) I was told it would make the NAV work better when SAT was temp unavail. because of the VSS.

I will check out that camera *(when I had my local Chevy dealer adjust the chime volumes they also turned off the backup screen (so I will have to take it back in.)

thanks for all your help!

that cam is so cheap is scares me a bit (you get what you pay for sometimes.)

I will keep you posted in the install!

The one linked to Camera-Source is what I put in my truck (except it was the non-wireless version). Works great. Haven't really tried the night vision yet.

One thing to note, it does NOT come with the lock, just a whole for it. You specify if you want it left open so you can put your own in there or a filler plug glued in it when ordering.

that is the camera I got and like I said it works wonders, and at night I can't believe the sharp image, and by the way I got it for only $17.51

about the black screen when in reverse, you can switch that on or off yourself in menu, so if they charge you for turning it on they are going to rip you off, and if they already charged you for turning it off, I feel sorry then

thank you for letting us know the deal with the lock, I was under the impression that you specify if you want the lock or not

The screen used to have the "BACKUP" tab but they thought they were doing me a favor by turning off that function. (I am going to see if they will turn it back on at no cost since they turned it off without first asking.)

Got my Tahoe back today and they got the backup screen showing again! (had to hook up a tech II and run through codes and a few VINS etc.) Now just need to get the camera and get it installed!

Showing "service backup camera system" when currently in reverse.(I can turn off the display in reverse if wanted.) I assume the message is there because there is not camera signal?

Well the Camera is installed and works great!iI had it installed it where the factory camera would have been and it works great!!!

here is the camera if anyone wants to know. Paid a bit more for it but supported a local business and it has a lifetime warranty with the shop as does the install work.
