Something Wrong With The Engine

OK guys......I am sending this from the other side of the planet!

Pleasssssssse excuse my ignorance on mechanical topics but I just joined this group to learn from you guys.

I got a 2010 GM HD 4x4 Crew Cab truck (my dream in the last 7 years..finally was able to got it). It is very powerful truck but I think something wrong with the engine! Let me explain: we have sand dunes (large ones) and almost all the times I push the pedal to speed up to climb the dune, the engine fails without going dead and after 3 to 4 seconds the truck "jump" with much power!! Any ideas what is wrong?!!

By the way, how do I know what is the differential gear ratio of my truck?!

many thanks,

Shammar

The gears can be found in the RPO codes in the glove box. GT4-3.73, GT5-4.10.

Is the truck stock for the most part? Need some more info on your truck.

And Welcome

Try turning off the traction control. The engine is cutting off to stop wheelspin.

Thank you Paul,

I will try switching off the traction control. Let you know!! Thanks again.

Does it also have Stability Control? If so, hold down the Traction Control switch for several seconds, and it'll turn that off too.

These trucks are too heavy for sand dunes specially in summer when it is very dry .. nice truck!!

It may have a little something to do with torque management on these trucks along with the traction control. Do a search on torque management and you will get torqued.... . Wish they would just build a normal truck without all the extra hold backs. I guess they all have a purpose and a value. I'm old school I guess.

I wasn't 100% sure the 2500's had traction control, but if it does, then def. thats part/most of your issue. By turning it off, you'll find you have less of a problem in the dunes. Also, would you consider getting a custom tune. I can tell you it's night and day over the stock tuning and you pick up a few HP's too.

Thats great news! Glad we were able to help :banghead: Thats what I love about the forums. Mostly people don't have issues, but when they do, these places are great resources for help.

Nice truck, are you in Dubai by chance? I saw a truck that looked identical to yours in Deira, Dubai a couple days back.

No that was not me! I work in Dhahran, SA and my family lives in the Great Nafud Desert. This kind of truck is very popular here in Arabia or Gulf (Arabian Gulf) areas and the gasoline is cheap  for these huge engines; so it is common to see similar to it.

thanks again Steven
