2011 Hd 3500 Duramax Owners

For all of you guys who own the 2011 HD 3500 with the Duramax, can you please give me the good, the bad, and the ugly? I have a deal pending on a new HD 3500 with the Duramax and am ready to do it, just need a little reassurance that its better then the others per say. I love my HD2500 with 6.0 but i had wished i got the Duramax, now I have the opportunity to get a Duramax. What do you guys think?

Any news on the 2012, I cant foresee any major changes after what was done in 2011 but I would hate to buy this 2011 and find out next month the 2012's are so much better.

Hands down, the best truck on the road in my opinion. With the updates they've done for 2011 combined with the Dmax, you can't go wrong :dunno:

Damn, that's what I was afraid of, guess it's going to cost some more money, :dunno:

MODS,

The bad is the high cost of the option and maintance, oil, filter, fuel filters and urea fluid needed for the emissions system. Unless you tow 35000 miles a year its an expensive option. Yes you can tow faster but at a big cost.

It is really cheap no to offer TPMS on anything over 10K gvw. The 3500 series get no TPMS. I had it on my 2008 2500HD and liked it from a safety perspective. My 2011 3500 does not have it.

The 2012 truck will not be the new replacement truck. A 2011 will be fine.

Federal law does not require TPMS on anything over 10K gvw. They will give you Stabilitrack and anti sway but no TPMS.

My around town mileage in the Oregon countryside is about 14.5 to 15.5mpg without trying to improve it. On the highway without haveing to start and stop at street legal speeds I can get

21.3 to 23mpg.

2011 HD steering, braking and general engine/cab quietness are far superior to anything prior to 2011. Although GM says the 2011 Duramax gets 11% better MPG, it does count

the fact the truck is hauling 457lbs in a heavier frame and suspension. I do not get 11% better economy over my 08 HD Duramax.

ChrisB1,

Those gas numbers are great, I am looking forward to that compared to what the 6.0 was getting. I didn't even realize it doesn't come with the TPMS system. Do you drive it a lot, and if so how is it for parking the beast, filling up at gas stations, :dunno:

Bought truck end of 1/11, currently have 3500 miles. Parking is OK so long as you have good wide parking places with adequate space between parking rows. I do not park in any tight spots and will drive to the outer area of parking lot to get a good spot. A crew cab, long box is not something to take into a busy downtown and expect to parallel park. In Oregon, parallel parking is almost never possible because the openings are not long enough for the truck. Fortunately, I live in the country and most of my running around is rural, small town. Closest town is 2400 persons 5 miles away. Next closest is 12K persons about 10 miles away. The GM HD is light years ahead of Ram and Ford for steering turning circle. The better steering can only do so much.

I bought SRW in order to be able to garage park. I have a circular driveway with curves. The truck clears the door entry with 3in on each side. Once I clear the mirrors, I make a slight turn. With a dual you must remain straight and clear the rear fenders before turning. Too much risk of hitting the rear fenders. The only benefit of a dual is for a large camper or bed load greater than 3200lbs. Your factory bed load is on s sticker in the glove box. My GVW is 11, 600. My front axle weight with driver and full fuel is 4750 on the front and 3250 on the back. The truck with such a load weights 8000 with driver and full fuel. My glove box bed weight is about 3150lbs. Mainly limited by the tires.

Not having TPMS is a good thing in my opinion. I wish mine didn't have it. Its a big hassle everytime you rotate the tires or if you want to run a lower pressure in the rear tires when not towing as I do. I just learned to live with the low pressure light on. :uhoh: As for the Duramax I would buy one if I could justify the cost. I don't tow enough to spend the money.

When I had TPMS on my 08 HD Diesel 2500, I could run the tires at any airpressure I desired. Running around I set all at 60psi. If the variance is more than

the programming will allow, the TPMS indicator in the instrument panel would lite. Some do not like seeing the indicator light. My rotations are handled by

America Tire in Oregon and they reset every 5k when I rotate. The reset is free at most Oregon tire shops. Having the indicator is a good thing when towing or driving and you pick up a puncture. It will notify you faster than a driver could notice.
