Rear view mirror

I just bought an aftermarket rear view mirror with auto-dimm, compass, and thermometer.  And was wondering if I was to install it myself do I need to do anything to the computer?(like take it to the dealership and have them program it?) I don't think that they are related but would like to know for sure.   Also has anyone done this install?  Is it really as hard to run wires under the headliner as it sounds?

Thanks,

Have you read the instructions that came with the mirror?  How many wires do you need to hook up?  What colors are they?

If you have the Gentex autodimming mirror, the mirror should be a plug in assembly.  The harness should already be there just tucked under the headliner.  The harness should have at least 2 wires (power and ground) on one end of the connector.  If there is a third wire, it is for the temp sensor.  I know for a fact that the temperature feature was not added until 2000.  In the '99 the harness only had 2 wires.  I'm not sure if you have the temp sensor already hooked up.  If you have to run the wire for the temp sensor, you will have to remove the pillar trim to run it down to the dash, then out the firewall grommet.  No other programming required.  The mirror will take a couple of seconds to initiallize the first time you power it up.  All you need to do after that is to program in the zone location you are at (zone map either in the owner's manual or on the instructions).
