New Front Bumper Replacement Going On Soon

So, I have been working on a new heavy duty front bumper replacement and grille guard, and I got it all put together last week. It still need to be primed sanded and painted, but its got all the steel welded on. I decided since it was all fabbed up Ide put it on the scales, and it came across at 156lbs.

My question is, would torsion bars from a 2500 HD help reduce the amount of front end sag when I get the bumper mounted? I know the factory torsion bars can handle the weight, but Ive got a set of 2" re-indexed keys on it already and I want to maintain the current height I have. I would just turn up the keys some more, but the driver side is maxxed. I think the stock bars are pretty worn to begin with.

Is there a difference in the 1500 torsion bars and the HD torsion bars? Would HD bars even fit in my truck? Any input would be appreciated.

i just did a key swap on my 07 classic vmax (the vmax has 4wd suspension on 2wd 1500 platform). now the truck is 2 inches taller in the front and i still have the full adjustment of the keys. meaning the bolts are backed all the way out. my truck has 26k miles on it. so it stands to reason swapping keys will give you a lift and still leave room to go higher. you may need to adjust shock length accordingly. hope this helps.

Well, no that doesnt help much. I already have aftermarket keys installed. I added the aftermarket keys because the stock driver side key was already maxxed out. In order to get the 2" of lift, I had to max the driver side aftermarket key. So, now Im out of adjustment. Im assuming that Im out of adjustment because the bars are getting worn. Im thinking 2500 bars would help, but I dont know for sure. I was hoping someone could tell me for sure.

i noticed no one has posted anything trying to help out..but i got bored this morning and started goggling your idea.. i came across this other forum.. i was reading it a bit and they said you could put 1500 bars into a 2500..so i would think it would be do able.. but the ride would be stiffer that's for sure. sense the bars them self would be a heavier option..

.. or just a thought.. i know they made the 1500HD maybe find a set of those torsion bars.. sense they will be made for a 1500 chassis..

here is the link i found.. have a read hope it helps out a bit..

Maybe your current torsion bars are "tired" and sagging more than they should since you've already mentioned you have the re-indexed keys and your maxed out with those. If the 2500 torsion bars don't pan out, then maybe a new set of 1500 bars would do the trick.

What about swapping the bars from one side to the other? Would reversing the rotational force on the bars cause any kind of strange fatigue or catastrofic failure?

Your bars must be worn out, my bumper weighs about that and didn't change the height. I thought it might make the truck ride different, but it didn't even change steering feel at all. :dunno:

I think bars from an HD is a good idea if they'll fit. Or how about coilover lift shocks? That may be easier to do.

Didnt think of that. Do they make a bolt in kit for our trucks or would it have to be a custom install?

I know there's lots of brands that make em, King, Pro Comp, etc. From what I've read the Kings are great.

They bolt in as far as I know. I've seen a truck or two on here that have them. Might do some digging.

Looking forward to seeing the bumper on!

Check the sig.

Its an old thread, but I still havent done anything with my torsion bars. The front doesnt look bad in the picture, but at a good profile shot, the front sits about 3" lower than the rear. I just want another inch or so, not a totally leveled look, because I dont want the rear sagging if I load it slightly.

Well, actually, that is the second one Ive built since this thread started. The first one had a full brush guard, but I sold it and had to build another one to fit after the body lift.

Sorry, but I didnt document it. I was in a rush to get it fabbed so I didnt have to drive without a bumper. Got it fabbed up in just about 16 hours.

Got a ballpark figure on cost? I haven't priced that kind of metal in a long time. Kinda interested as to how much money Ranch Hand, Road Armor, etc make on a bumper.
