Hello New To The Board...

Well Im in Tx, and bought a GMC 1500 W/ 4.3... had my brother pick it up. It was a great deal. but it has whit smoke on startup.? I've done some searchin and some say it was a cracked head. Im gonna road trip it back to Tx like 1,800 miles. Down side I have a week to work on the truck. There is a place here in Tx that sells reman 3.4 heads for about 300. but the issue i have is not knowing if I need to replace the heads or just gaskets. seeing this is my first GMC and time is short can someone help me with this? what gaskets will I need If Im gonna replace the head gaskets...(intake? throttle body? cylinder head?) Or should I just Order the reman Heads and gaskets? Help Guys! Thanks!

Well first off... Welcome. You'd have to do more testing to make sure thats the issue first. I wouldn't just go throwing parts at it till you have a better idea of whats going on. How many miles on the truck?

180,567 the issue is I will be going to work on/ get it and drive back on the 22nd of this month. It will be a 1800 plus mile trip. that being said I will have little time to order new parts. but if I can mak it through that long trip to Tx I can buy new heads and such.
