Fuel Injector Replacement On 02 Suburban

So, after dealing with a Cylinder 5 misfire code, for awhile, changing plugs and wires, testing coils, etc. it's been narrowed down to a Fuel Injector. The injector is getting power, but not injecting fuel. I plan to replace it myself, to save a bit of money, but want to check in here first. I've never done any injector replacements, on any vehicle, so I'm a bit nervous...lol. All the rigs I've ever done much work on were carb rigs.

Are there any specialty tools that I'll need?

 

Anything I need to watch out for?

 

Any reason I should go with a GM part, as apposed to a NAPA or Delphi part?

It is actually very easy to change out the injector. If I were you, I would replace all the seals on the remaining injectors since you are going to have the rail off anyway. If memory serves me right, there are 8 bolts holding the rail to the intake, remove those, and pull the whole assembly up. Don't forget to pop off the retaining clip on the injector, or you will play hell pulling it out of the rail.

No special tools needed,just a suggestion but before you buy anything,you may want to try swapping the fuel injector with another cylinder to confirm its the issue,should be able to reuse the orings as long as you do not tear them or loose them.But its up to you and what you comforatble with.

Can someone confirm the position of #5 for me? I am thinking it's the 3rd one back, on the driver's side. Is this correct?

Yes. Drivers side is 1-3-5-7 passenger is 2-4-6-8

Thanks all for your help! Got it done! I was a lil' upset though, when the Service Engine light was still lit, after I was done. AutoZone told me to disconnect the negative battery terminal, to clear the light, I did, it didn't work...lol. However, after stopping for gas, started the rig back up and light was off! Success!!
