Hey all-

So I get back from a camping trip and my transfer case decides to give up the ghost. At first I thought I was going to find the hole in the case, but it just looks like a plain old failure (looking through inspection cover in the top I can see a snap ring where it's not supposed to be ). Anyway, I order a reman'd unit from Merchant Automotive up in MI,with their upgrade kit (aka case saver). It gets here and I commence to swapping brackets, the electronic shifter etc. That's when it dawns on me - they sent me a gasket to go between the tcase and tranny, but when I dropped the original it was assembled with black silicone. Am about to slap the new unit in and get my truck back together...

 

So that's what my question is: would you go with gasket or black silicone and why?
