Oil Cooler Necessary?

Hello havent posted in a while,

 

Just finished replacing my radiator on my 93 C1500 5.7 which is equipped with a factory oil cooler system and I noticed that the oil cooler lines are leaking quite a bit. I know the sensible thing to do is to replace the lines but I was wondering could I get away with just taking the system off and plugging the cooler in the radiator? I do not do any towing nor do I do long trips.

 

Can I simply just unbolt the system from the engine and just put the oil filter in it place?

 

Just curious any input is much appreciated!

Engine oil cooler or transmission cooler? If transmission you need it or need an auxillary cooler

engine oil cooler on my '93 6.2 diesel used to come without a cooler from factory and i opted out of repairing mine and pluged the block ,so as Darral said ,tranny yes to cooler,engine no lol

Sorry it is the engine oil cooler not the transmission cooler. Thanks I will probably just take it off untill I am willing to fix it haha!

just plug them with pipe dope and take your cooler lines to a hose fab shop/store and see if they can replace hoses/crimped fittings,

 

 

i did with my suburban diesel cooler lines,worked out very nice and conciderably cheaper

Thats a good idea! I may just have to do that thanks. Because to buy replacement lines made to fit can cost an arm and a leg
